Throughout the city, there are young people from disadvantaged backgrounds desperately trying to find their way through life. Since the pandemic, over 50% of 16-19 year olds are worried about their future and lack the confidence and skills to prepare them for life beyond education. With the help and support of an adult mentor they are 25% more likely to gain employment and earn over £40,000 on top of their lifetime earnings.
How it works:
The programme has two cohorts (Y’s Women and Y’s Guys) with a mentor being assigned to each young person (in some cases a mentor may have 2 students at the same time). Meeting for an hour every 3 weeks (twice termly) a set structure is followed with resources to help to develop the students key knowledge and skills where topics such as the following are covered.
- Careers
- Aspirations
- Money/ finance
- Home life
- Student life
- Personal support
- CV Writing
