Possibly one of the most ambitious housing developments in Devon will be launched to market on 1 October this year. The project involves the restoration and redevelopment of the historic Fort Bovisand, which was built in the mid-1800s to defend the entrance of Plymouth Sound from threat posed by Napoleonic France. The fort, which in recent years was a commercial dive training centre, was in urgent need of repair and is currently listed on Historic England’s ‘at risk’ register. This project aims to restore the fort, improve sea defences, reinstate the harbour, and create more than 80 new homes and apartments with sea views.
The former Director General of the BBC and Chairman of Fort Bovisand Developments Ltd, Greg Dyke, says that once finished the project will cost in the region of £26 million. “The project is immense, but preserving Fort Bovisand, which is one of the best surviving Palmerston Forts in existence is important. We acquired the site several years ago and as soon as I saw it and understood its history, I was determined it should be saved. It very quickly became clear that the best chance of saving and restoring the fort was by allowing sensitive development on parts of the site. Both South Hams District Council and Historic England agreed with this analysis and have been very supportive in getting a workable scheme agreed to achieve the future life of the fort. The exciting regeneration plans will bring new life to the site, protecting a significant historic building and bringing it back to sustainable and meaningful use, while introducing new contemporary aspects and homes to the site,” says Dyke.
Knowthis have been working hard over the last 2 months to create a core brand for the development as well as a website for the whole project along with copywriting, sales brochures, presentations, launch material, social media campaigns and development hoardings to name but a few. The project is focused on the first six homes being build at the moment than moving to the other three stages over the next three years.
Ben Saul, Managing Director of Knowthis says “the project is as exceptional as it is unique. To be involved in such a prestigious, high profile development as Bovisand Harbour is an incredible privilege and we are committed 110% to delivering the very best marketing comms for the BH team. After the VIP launch on the 1st October, the next three years are set to deliver all marketing communications until the final properties are sold.
