Plymouth Science Park tenant Acronyms is delighted to have won “Small Business of the Year” at the prestigious Devon and Plymouth Chamber Awards. The ceremony which took place on the evening of Friday 24th September, at Buckfast Abbey, saw Acronyms also come Highly Commended in the ‘Digital Business of the Year” and “Customer Commitment Award”.

The Devon and Plymouth Chamber awards recognise the outstanding achievements of businesses in the county across the course of the year. In recognising Acronyms as the Small Business of the Year, the judging panel were impressed with the IT consultancy’s commitment to local talent and supporting the local jobs market and also for its recent rapid growth outside of the South West.

Dave Smith, founder of Acronyms said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised by the Devon and Plymouth Chamber for the incredible year we have had. When the company was founded in 2003, it was on the basis that we were going to provide a common sense and honest approach to IT.

“On that basis, we have been able to continue to grow the company, despite the testing couple of years we have all faced. We will continue to look to grow over the coming months, all whilst ensuring that the principles on which Acronyms was founded remain at the core if everything we do,” Smith concluded.

Tom Moore, Director at Acronyms commented: “Our commitment to the South West and attracting and retaining the best possible talent in the area has really contributed to our success, and it’s great to see it recognised by the judging panel of the Devon and Plymouth Chamber.

“As a region, we need to do more to highlight the level of talent and innovation that is here in droves. We are so much more than a holiday destination. There are some amazing companies and individuals here in the South West, and we should be making more noise about that.

“That is certainly something we will be doing here at Acronyms as we continue to grow and build on the momentum that has seen us be so successful over the past couple of years.”
