Park tenant RPmatters support businesses in measuring and removing Radon gas.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is found at various levels everywhere. It is released from the ground and can become trapped within structures. The amount in the ground is as a consequence of the type of geology. The amount in a structure is as a consequence of many more factors: soil permeability and solubility, air pressure and humidity, structural defects and how the structure is ‘used’.
Using measurement data commencing from the ‘80’s, PHE prepared maps showing Radon potential. The whole of the South West is considered a Radon Affected Area. This means there is a significant potential for homes and workplaces to have elevated levels of Radon gas. The Health and Safety at Work act requires a risk assessment to be carried out and to include all relevant risks; Radon is very relevant risk.
RPmatters provides a wide level of support to Radon in homes and the workplace, providing legislative compliant risk assessments and determining where measurements should be carried out.
They provide for home owners and workplaces with monitoring devices; as well as additional procedures and policy documents for schools, hospitals, workplaces and housing associations. Radon is measured to a level where the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 become applicable, we provide the specialist support to ensure compliance.
To measure Radon, small ‘pods’ are placed strategically with a property. They are left in place for 90 days and returned to RPmatters for processing and recommendations. Short term (10 day) testing gives a good indicative result and can be useful for conveyancing purposes.
Removing the Radon gas (mitigation) is also relatively easy and RPmatters can provide advice and support throughout the process.
